In November 2024, PROram carried out advanced measurements of a field companion bridge on behalf of the Professor Józef Kosacki Military Institute of Engineering Technology (WITI). WITI is a research institute supervised by the Ministry of Defence, specialising in engineering army technology and equipment.
The aim of the project was to provide precise measurements of the bridge structure necessary to assess the conformity of the structure with the technical documentation and numerical calculations.
Usage of modern 3D scanning and industrial metrology technologies allowed PROram to achieve millimeter accuracy in measurements. The results of the measurements will be used by WITI engineers to compare with the design assumptions.
The challenge: precise measurements under studio conditions
Field accompanying bridges are an important piece of equipment for engineering troops. Their design must meet stringent requirements in terms of precision and strength. The challenge was the need to carry out measurements in WITI’s laboratory facilities, where the specific spatial conditions required a precise configuration of the measurement equipment. The project also required adherence to strict military quality standards. This put particular emphasis on the meticulousness of each stage of the work.
The solution: using advanced measurement technology
PROram took a comprehensive approach, combining different metrology technologies. We used portable laser measurement kits, integrated with software. This enabled real-time visualisation and analysis of measurements. This approach enabled WITI engineers to analyse the collected data in real time, detect possible discrepancies and implement corrections.
Another important factor was the precise calibration of the measuring equipment under space-constrained conditions.
Implementation

The first step was to prepare the measurement plan and configure the equipment. This was followed by a detailed scan of the structure. The collected data was analysed using sophisticated software. A point cloud was obtained, which will serve engineers and designers for further study and field work.
It is important to emphasize the very good atmosphere of cooperation with WITI engineers. The factual contact allowed PROram’s experts to carry out the measurements quickly, efficiently and in accordance with WITI expectations.
Results and benefits
PROram’s work resulted in precise measurement results. WITI’s surveys, in which PROram specialists participated, will help avoid potential problems during field operations and ensure that the bridge fully complies with technical requirements.
The digital model of the bridge structure created added value, in parallel to the measurements carried out by optical methods.
The use of advanced measurement technology allowed precise results to be obtained along the entire length of the span. This adds value over optical measurement (single point measurement).
Long-term benefits for the client include improved efficiency in design processes and the ability to accurately assess construction quality.
Customer feedback
The WITI representative emphasised that the cooperation with PROram was extremely valuable. ‘Thanks to the technologies used and the professional approach of the PROram team, we were able to achieve results that far exceeded our expectations. Their support is important for the success of the project.’
Conclusion
The field measurement project of the companion bridge for WITI underlines PROram’s ability to deliver in challenging conditions. The company has confirmed its position in the industrial metrology industry by providing solutions that meet the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.
